- 1). Determine what height you would like your stools. Measure your existing stools and subtract that necessary height. This will give you the amount of leg that should be taken off of your stool height.
- 2). Measure a leg of the chair from the floor according to your measurements. Mark the chair leg where it should be cut. Measure the leg from the mark to the seat pad of the chair. The measurement should be between 24 and 26 inches.
- 3). Hold a piece of scrap wood up to the chair leg that is marked. Make a mark on the scrap wood that matches this length. Trim the scrap wood with the circular saw. This piece of scrap wood will be your guide for cutting all four legs. Using a guide will avoid measuring mistakes and will keep the legs from being uneven.
- 4). Hold the scrap wood guide up to each leg. Mark each stool leg to correspond to the length of the scrap wood.
- 5). Turn the chair on its side and cut each leg with a circular saw according to the marks.
- 6). Sand each chair leg with fine grit sandpaper to smooth out the rough wood. Wipe away the sanding dust with a damp cloth.
- 7). Place rubber chair pads or rubber feet on the bottom of each chair leg to protect the floor from getting scratched and to make the legs look finished.
