Hi I'm Dr. Raphael Darvish with Skinpeccable Dermatology and Cosmetic Laser Center here in Los Angeles, California. And I'm here today to discuss with you how to remove stretch marks after kids. So stretch marks are a common thing that happens after pregnancy all over the abdomen generally for many women. And it's definitely a very annoying problem but there are some good treatments that you can do to help eliminate or reduce the appearance of these stretch marks. So firstly there's creams. There's a number of commercially available scar creams that work well. Mederma is one. There are also Shea butter and cocoa butter that have been shown to be helpful. Exfoliation is another good strategy. Microdermabrasion chemical peel, some scrubs help take off the top layer of dead skin and help to make those scars or stretch marks look less obvious. Thirdly, there's lasers. If the stretch mark is red you can use a laser that removes red such as an IPL or Vbeam laser to help improve the appearance of the stretch mark. If the stretch mark is white or pale white you can use a fractionated laser like this particular fractionated heparin laser that I have here in my office. And lastly, you can do surgery meaning a tummy tuck to remove the excess skin where the stretch marks are. The only issue is can you remove all of the skin whether all of the stretch mark or whether they'll be a small portion of the stretch mark left over. And when you do that in a tummy tuck you are left with a surgical scar at your waistline so you are substituting the stretch marks with a surgical scar to waistline. I'm Dr. Raphael Darvish and that's a brief overview on how to remove stretch marks after kids.
