Marijuana For Cancer Treatment

At first the medical community considers to be very cynical and alternative treatment cannot be justified because it is not supported by adequate medical research. But more and more facts to make their success tempted to do the research.
The result? More and more alternative treatment technique that is recognized, even used by doctors as a complementary therapy to get a better cure rate.   There are dozens, even hundreds of alternative treatment techniques. Each country, each region, even each community has its own techniques. Generally, alternative treatment can be divided into several broad categories.
A recent study showed that marijuana in fact contain an active ingredient that can increase the appetite of cancer patients. It is known on the basis from the results of research conducted at the University of Alberta. Marijuana can help patients with advanced cancer.

Research from the University of Alberta, Canada, showed that the active ingredient in marijuana called delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), can increase the appetite and of taste in patients with advanced cancer.

Previously, marijuana has been known to reduce symptoms of nausea in cancer patients, so the use of THC can also serve as an appetite stimulant.

Results showed 37 percent from the cancer patients who took 2.5 milligrams of THC in pill form compounds 2 or 3 times a day for 18 days, reported an increase in appetite, compared with 30 percent of patients taking placebo (empty medicine). And 64 percent of patients who took THC reported appetite increase compared with 50 percent of patients taking placebo.

"Marijuana has a bad reputation for healthy people, but studies have shown that marijuana also has good effects for cancer patients," explained researcher Wendy Wismer, a food scientist at the University of Alberta in Canada, as reported by LiveScience, " Monday (2 / 28 / 2011).

Wismer said that the cancer patients can enjoy the food and does not feel hungry. It is a big improvement to improve the quality of their life.

"Patients with advanced cancer often have a wasting syndrome, where the body burns calories more quickly than those who did not have cancer. But on the other hand, the cancer patients often lose their appetite," said Wismer.

According to Wismer, this study may indicate that the THC can help overcome the wasting syndrome.

"Furthermore, these findings should be tested in larger studies with more patients," said Wismer.

The results of this study have been published on 22 February in the Annals of Oncology journal.
