Use Less Electricity
The main thing you need to come to terms with is the idea of using less electricity in your daily life. I know this sounds like a hard one, because almost everything we do in modern life means using electricity. But If you are determined to cut down on your spending you will be able to do this.
Switch Things Off When Not In Use
How often do you go out of the room and leave something on? For example, youre watching TV and the phone rings. You go to answer it, but leave the TV blaring away by itself while you have a half hour conversation with your mother or whoever. Thats wasted energy right there.
The one exception to this rule is fluorescent lights. Fluorescent lights use quite a lot of power when they are switched on, so dont switch them off if youre only going out of the room for five minutes. However, if you will be out of the room for a long time, then you should still switch them off.
Turn Everything Off At Night
This one probably seems more obvious, because most people probably turn things off when they go to bed at night. However, there could be a few hidden things, such as the air conditioning for example. Another common one that people often miss is leaving the TV on standby mode. You know, when the TV is off but its still switched on at the wall and you see that little red light. Leaving a TV on standby all night uses as much electricity as it does in an entire evening of normal TV viewing. So, to be safe, switch everything off at the wall sockets and you should be okay.
