Mindset and Jobs

There are so many factors that go into and getting the job you want and the job you need. From resumes, cover letters, emails, references, social media, networking, interviews, and presentation. However there is one critical element that is often overlooked, mindset. I want to focus on three main types of job seekers for this: One, Women or Men that may have been out of the workforce for some time. Two, people that have lost jobs and having been unemployed for some time. Three, Veterans, retired members of the Armed Forces.

Follow me for a moment on how the mind works and processes information: "Your voice belongs to your conditioned mind. Which is the result of your past history as well as the collective cultural mindset you have inherited. So you see and judge the PRESENT through the eyes of the past and get a totally distorted view of it."

Meaning, our mind is the greatest machine in the world, better than any computer. It has the capacity to shape thought, feeling, and emotion. With that can come a vicious circle of reality. That our mind pulls on the past and the preconceived notions and the labels we have inherited and it can have a devastating effect. This effect will ripple all the way down to how we present ourselves in jobs and interviews.

Going through the process of employment is a grind. We feel the stress, apprehension, tension, and the for a lack of a better phrase all the "junk" in our life and past gets all mixed up in our NOW. However our now, if utilized properly can be the most liberating feeling in the world. Let me ask you have you ever said: "I am just not into this today." "What's the use I am not qualified." "Why would they hire someone like me?" "I have done this 1000 times, it is never going to happen." Here is a fact and it is undeniable, when you have this mindset you are 100% correct to all of the above.

Jobs, job seeking, job qualifying, job markets, job qualifications, and just getting a job is a full-time job unto itself. However, you have to work and live in the now. Regardless of what anyone has said to you, that is the past, you must be in the now. The past will only rob you of your now. If you let those labels, rejections, hardships, or obstacles you haven't even encountered yet in, they win and here is what it will effect: EVERYTHING.

Your mind has the ability to allow you to be "on". You know that energy, vibe, and flow where it seems everything you touch turns to gold. You can have that feeling all of the time. Only your mind can rob you of that and if you allow it, it will. When sitting to do your resume, cover letter, email, phone interview, and interview you must be in the now state. Nothing from your past will help, only hurt. It doesn't matter what the job qualifications tell you, you can get it. It doesn't matter what 100 prior interviews have said, you can get it. The fact is your mind and any negativity will come through in your writing, email, tone of voice, energy, and acceptance. It will be transferred off to the person receiving your information or interview.

Focus on the now. What you want and need. Not the pains of the past. You have an opportunity to seize the job you want. It doesn't matter if you have worked in 20 years, or if all you have is Military experience, or you have been out of work for one year. There are companies like Get My Mom a Job, Get My Dad a Job, and Get My Vet a Job that can help ensure your success. Your job search will depend as much on your mindset as aptitude, and you control both. Be in the now, utilize the resources available, and get that job! Forget the past, forget the future, focus on now and the result will happen. Congratulations on your new job.
