- The Association of the United States Navy provides scholarship assistance to the dependents of Navy veterans through the AUSN Education Assistance Program. To be eligible, an applicant must be the child of an AUSN member in good standing, must be no older than 24, and be pursuing an undergraduate degree or technical certification on a full-time basis. In addition, an applicant must be a U.S. citizen and have registered for the draft. AUSN scholarships are awarded in varying amounts on the basis of financial need. The annual deadline for applying is May 1. Prospective recipients should visit the AUSN website to apply.
- The Tillman Military Scholars program, offered by the Pat Tillman Foundation, is available not only to veterans but also to their spouses and dependent children. To be eligible, an applicant must be a veteran, spouse, or child between the ages of 19 and 28 whose veteran parent cannot transfer benefits to them. An applicant must also be pursuing a degree at a U.S. institution and attending school on a full-time basis. Recipients will be selected on the basis of financial need, educational record, commitment to their community, and thoughtfulness of essay responses. Prospective recipients should visit the Pat Tillman Foundation website to apply.
- The Fisher House Foundation makes aid available to military dependents through its Scholarships for Military Children program. These scholarships are valued at $1,500 and may be used to defray the cost of tuition, books, lab fees or other expenses related to education. To be eligible, an applicant must be the child of an active-duty service member, veteran, or deceased service member, must be unmarried and no older than 22. An applicant must also be enrolled or planning to enroll full-time, and have a high school and/or college GPA of at least 3.0. An applicant must be seeking an undergraduate degree to be eligible; Fisher House Foundation Scholarships for Military Children will not pay for study at the graduate level.
- VA Mortgage Center Military Education Scholarships are available to children of active-duty and retired service personnel from all branches. These scholarships are awarded in amounts of either $1,000 or $1,500 and may be used to pay for tuition, fees, books, and also for room and board. To be eligible, a student must be enrolled for at least 12 credit-hours per semester. These scholarships are awarded on the basis of an essay contest.
