Learn About Horse 4-H Clubs
What is 4-H?:
4-H is a youth organization that provides learning opportunities and fun to children and young adults. There are regular educational meetings. Members also participate in demonstrations and exhibitions. 4-H is not just horse orientated, but encompasses programs that include just about every facet of life--from cooking, computers, sports, and camera skills, to livestock and crop husbandry.
Whatever your interest there probably is a 4-H program for you.
Why Join 4-H?:
When I was a member the motto was "Learn to Do By Doing" and most programs are very 'hands on'. Members learn many skills valuable on a personal and community level. There are opportunities for travel and scholarships as well. 4-H is a great place to have fun and meet new friends with common interests.
Who Can Join 4-H?:
There are opportunities for everyone with 4-H. Children and young adults may join as members and adults may volunteer as 4-H Leaders. Either opportunity is a great way to learn about horses.
How Do I Join?:
If you are under 21 you may join as a member. There are 4-H branches located almost everywhere in North America. To find a 4-H branch in your area check out the websites listed below and search for your area. Adults may enjoy volunteering as 4-H Leaders. Working with kids is very rewarding and a wonderful way to share what you know and learn along too. 4-H provides lots of support and resources to help you put together a program that you will enjoy along with the members.
What Is Available Through 4-H Horse Clubs?:
There are programs that cover almost every aspect of horse care, riding and driving. If you and several friends have a particular interest you may be able to encourage an adult to start a program if one does not already exist. Otherwise, see what is available and start learning to do by doing.
