Constipation And Water

Water is an indispensable, cheap and easily obtainable natural constipation remedy.

The first thing some people do after waking up in the morning is to drink one or two glasses of cold water to induce bowel movement. However, many reasonably healthy people claim that drinking water does not work for them.

While understanding the important role of water in constipation is not rocket science, apparently many folks do not see hydrogen oxide as one part of the big picture. Water has to work together with other factors such as fiber, fats, friendly bacteria, exercise in the right quantity and quality plus relaxation which differs from individual to indivual.

One thing for sure, water is a pleasant constipation remedy. Which thirsty soul doesn't welcome refreshing drinks, especially during a hot day? People who don't cherish taking water with laxatives can opt for fresh fruit juices bursting with living enzymes or delicious soups.

The natural sounds of sea waves, waterfalls, rivers and pitter-patter of rains have a calming effect on the mind, which in turn, makes the autonomic nervous system happy to tell the digestive tract to work. Watery sounds of nature are recorded for sale as a form of relaxation program to soothe the nerves of concrete jungle dwellers.

Bathing can also relieve constipation. Japanese have long cherished this therapeutic effect of their sublime onsens. Folks who have no access to natural hot springs can visit spas or install whirlpool baths in their own homes where artifical moving waters massage acupressure points of the body-stimulating peristalsis.

Comparatively, we have among us fellow humans who are too ill to use water liberally. One example is the dialysis patients.

Dialysis patients cannot drink water as much as they would like and, they are prone to constipation. The quantity of water a dialysis patient is allowed depends on his urine output. In between dialysis sessions, he rations his water intake including the water in his food. In order not to drink too much and to quench thirst, he has to sip and not guzzle.

Dialysis patients also have to be cautious about the content of their water. Among the many substances to avoid are potassium, phosphorus and sodium. That means no mineral water.

Whereas for most of us, the only evil water to watch out is diuretics which eliminate water from our body and contribute to dehydration. We can still enjoy coke, coffee and tea in moderation while giving water ample time to alleviate constipation.

Yes, it is a blessing to have water working for the benefit of the bowel!
