It's that time of year again, when you wrap up the kids in their warmest clothes, stick on the hats and push their fingers into the gloves and...
take them to the snow! The key to having fun in the cold, wet, snowy outdoors is staying warm.
Once you are cold, it seems you never warm up - especially your hands and / or feet.
The other night was the night of the year, designated to turning on the Christmas lights downtown and bring a glow to the city in celebration of the holidays.
We took my granddaughter.
It was thirty-five degrees outside, on a beautiful, starry night.
I realized why my son had such a hard time buckling her into her car seat.
She was four sizes bigger than normal with her cold weather attire on.
She had her socks, an undershirt, an over shirt, her pajama bottoms, a pajama top, a pair of snow pants with matching jacket that was accessorized with a reflective stripe, so everyone would notice how cute she was.
A pair of snow boots, gloves, and a ski hat finished off her look and was she adorable or what? Even if there was not any snow, it was cold enough to warrant the layers.
At least on the outside! If you're heading out to the cold, dress in layers.
You can always take it off, but you can not add to the layers if you don't have them.
Keep a blanket in the car for extra warmth or emergencies, especially in colder climates.
An extra pair of socks (or two) and an extra jacket is a good idea as well, should you need them.
And, the most important thing? Don't forget the sled!
