Cold sores on the corner of the mouth that are seen in babies are caused by the primary herpes infection.
These usually disappear with time.
However it is important that you ease away the pain and discomfort caused to your baby by their presence.
Constant application of ice on the affected skin helps to soothe the sores.
If, in case your baby is really troubled by the pain, give him/her a mild dose of a pain killer after consulting your physician.
This will help the baby get a good night's sleep.
Always keep in mind, that you should never give your baby adult aspirin, it will result in something known as Reye's syndrome which can be life threatening.
Babies suffering from this infection on the mouth, might have a problem eating and for this reason, you really need to talk to your doctor.
If you have a case of cold sores and a baby at home, try wearing a surgical mask whenever you are around the baby as there are chances of the virus being passed on to him/her.
Avoid kissing the baby and sharing utensils with the baby if you have the infection.
Protect the baby from the sun if he/she already has it or if your child is prone to it as he/she grows older.
An outbreak of these lesions can be triggered with exposure to the sun once the baby already has the virus.
Scarves, hats and the right kind of lip balm will be helpful in protecting your baby from extreme weather conditions.
