1.Major depression: This is the most classic example of sadness. This type is also known as clinical depression and "uni-polar" depression. The word "unipolar" depression is said as it is believed by that this kind of depression resides on the end region of the spectrum in brain. A person having major depression goes through unlikely thoughts, inability to control bad thoughts and staying sad for a long period of time.

2.Chronic depression: Popularly known as chronic gloominess or Dysthymia otherwise is another kind of sadness we will be talking about.
This kind of depression is a bit less severe than the major sadness, but remains for a long period of time within a person. A person experience sad mood, feels hopeless about him or her and gets sleepless. These feelings remain within a person"s mind for a long period of time. If this situation is not treated, it may lead to major depression in a person.
Treatment will give the person a chance to come over his illness and live a happy and a normal life.
3.Manic depression: This type of depression is also known as the bipolar despair. In this a person experiences frequent mood swings. They can be happy at one moment and sad in the other.
4.SAD: SAD stands for seasonal affective disorder. As the name says, this type of despair is seasonal. A person may feel; depressed in a particular season and live a normal life in the other. This is due to different state of hormones. This can be the same case for some particular occasions, like the Christmas, Birthdays, or even New Year eve.
5.Psychotic depression: This is the most sever type of sadness. In this type of sadness, a person experience strange hallucinations, hear to some noises and other illusions. Treatment of this particular type of gloominess is very important to prevent psychotic breakdown of the person.
There can be various reasons for sadness. It is important to understand the symptoms of gloominess and categorized according to its severity. It is important that the person going through any kind of gloominess should be treated as soon as possible to prevent any harm in the mental state of the person.
