The Missouri Botanical Garden is a place of natural beauty in St. Louis City. The Garden has been open visitors for more than 150 years. It's a living showcase for a wide variety of plants and flowers from all over the world.
The Missouri Botanical Garden is located at 4344 Shaw Boulevard in St. Louis. It's open daily from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Botanical Garden: Ridgway Center
The Ridgway Center is the main entrance to the Garden. It's here that visitors get tickets and pay their entrance fees. General admission is $8 for adults and free for children 12 and younger. Residents of St. Louis City and County get in for half-price.
Botanical Garden: Linnean House
The Linnean House is an historic greenhouse inside the Missouri Botanical Garden. It was built in 1882 and is one of the oldest public greenhouses west of the Mississippi River. The Linnean House is home to many varieties of subtropical plants.
Botanical Garden: Different Kinds of Cacti
At the Garden, visitors can see all kinds of plants not found elsewhere in St. Louis, including these unusual looking cacti. The plants have information cards that provide more details about the different species.
Botanical Garden: Climatron
The Climatron is a large glass-domed greenhouse filled with thousands of tropical plants. Entering the Climatron is like walking into a rain forest, complete with waterfalls and a rich green canopy overhead. Visitors can see rare orchids, giant banana plants, tall bamboo and much more.
Botanical Garden: Sculptures in the Climatron
Among the greenery inside the Climatron, visitors can also see these Chihuly glass sculptures. Glass sculptures add color and beauty to several locations throughout the Garden.
Botanical Garden: Children's Garden
Kids have their own special place at the Missouri Botanical Garden. The Children's Garden is a two-acre playground for kids with a prairie village, covered wagon, slides, caves, rope ladders and more. It's open daily from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., from April through October. There is an additional cost for the Children's Garden. General admission is $5 for kids ages three to 12. Adults get in free.
Botanical Garden: A Fun Place to Play
The Children's Garden is about learning and fun. It contains several educational exhibits, including a lock and dam system and a general store. Kids can also try on costumes and go inside a Native American shelter modeled after the Osage tribe.
Kids who like to explore and climb will find plenty to do at the Children's Garden. Hidden amongst the leaves is a giant treehouse and elevated walkway.
The Missouri Botanical Garden hosts special exhibits throughout the year, like the Chinese Lantern Festival. There are also annual events that are worth a visit. Check out the Orchid Show in February and March, Whitaker Music Festival in June and July, Best of Missouri Market in October and Holiday Train Show in November and December.
