Disadvantages of a Blogspot Account

    Tracking

    • In comparison to other blogging services, such as WordPress, a Blogspot account does not provide its users with as many options for tracking how many visitors view and interact with a blog. For example, as TopTenRevews shows, as of 2011, Blogger does not track blog views or comments that viewers make on blogs, nor does the service keep track of how many visitors view a blog within specific periods of time. In addition, Blogger does not track how many viewers request Atom or RSS feeds for receiving shortened, syndicated versions of blogs. These tracking limitations make it harder for Blogspot authors to analyze how well their blogs are doing, which in turns makes it harder for authors to improve their blogs.

    Insert Options

    • A Blogspot account does allow users to insert items into blog posts, such as hyperlinks to other websites and images. However, when users insert images, they only have five preset image sizes that they can choose from: "Small," "Medium," "Large," "X-Large" and "Original Size." Configuring an image size to meet other specifications is possible; however, it requires tinkering with HTML code, which can be difficult and confusing for amateur bloggers. Other Blogspot account limitations associated with insert options include not being able to insert symbols, mood icons and emoticons into blog posts. Such limitations restrain an author's ability to customize and add personality to a blog.

    Posting and Publishing

    • While Blogspot users can post blog entries from computer and smartphone Web browsers, posting from other applications is not possible. More specifically, unlike other blogging services, Blogger does not allow users to post blog entries from instant messaging services, such as Google Talk, Yahoo! Messenger or Windows Live. In addition, while Blogger allows users to publish blogs directly to Google's blog directory, Atom feeds and RSS feeds, users cannot publish Blogspot blogs directly to other popular blog sources, like Technorati, FeedBurner and weblogs.com. These limitations make it more difficult for Blogspot authors to get their blogs found.

    Comments

    • Like the majority of blog services, Blogger allows visitors to Blogspot blogs to post comments. However, unlike other blog services, Blogger does not allow the authors of blogs to search through these comments for specific topics or words. This search limitation makes it difficult for Blogspot authors to review comments, which can be beneficial in helping authors to improve their blogs.
