The Role Of A Medical Assistant In Healthcare

There are many people dying around the world because of the poor availability of the doctors on time. Many factors are responsible for this, sometimes doctors are not available in the hospital or already busy in treating a critical patient. And most of the time they couldn't reach to the patients on time. Doctors have very less time to make decision about the disease or the medicine, this has caused many casualties. Nurses are also playing a very important role in medical field but they are on the second stage where the care begins to cure. But the first stage is to identify the problem and to start the treatment. Physicians are there to diagnose the problems and to start the treatment. But in most of the cases, they get involved doing paper work as well. Normally this part is included in their job agreement, but it's not exactly what they need to do.

Medical assistance is another very important profession related to the medical field. They perform both tasks clinically and office administration depending on the situation. A very important thing you need to understand is that they don't work as physicians. When Physicians are examining the patient, a medical assistant makes patient's files, updates the records and also fills the insurance forms. They also help in correspondence, check e-mails and make appointments.

They work to collect patient's medical history record and vital signs. It is their duty to deal with the bills and some with bookkeeping. You will be seeing them working in laboratory, making some simple tests for the patients. They also prepare patients for routine check-up and help physicians with the patient history and details. When a patient comes to a doctor, medical assistance staff sterilizes the instruments and dispose the contaminated synergies and likewise materials, prepare patient for the x-rays room and describes the treatment procedure to them.

Medicalassistant programs are offered in vocational-technical high schools, there are 2 stages of them on certificate level and you have to spend one year and if you spend 2 years then you get an associate degree. The syllabus covers office and clinical sections, recordkeeping, accounting, insurance processing, administration of the medicine and medical law, some laboratory techniques, keyboarding, pharmaceutical principles, first aid, and patient relations.

You can start working after getting trained by the school, but since there is high competition and most of the employers demand the certification. You can have certification by appearing in the exams administrated by the American Association of MedicalAssistant. And after passing the exams you will be working as Certified MedicalAssistant. There are more career opportunities in terms of you will be able to perform the abilities in most known organizations. Once you get the certification, this will not be the end as you will be updating it after every five years.

The employment rate is very high and you will be working in Physicians' offices. On average, the annually salary of medical assistance staff starts from $23,700 to $33,000.
