I know that for many people they will not even think about what they can do to help this problem, but if your neighbors start complaining then you are going to want to make sure that you are trying to stop this problem.

Once I manage to get them to learn this when they start up I just have to tell them quiet and they do exactly what I say unless it is because of someone trying to break into the house or someone that they haven't seen before on the property.

The way that I found that works best in teaching my dog this method is to when he starts barking to tell him quiet repeatedly until he stops making his noise.
Then when he stops I will walk up and pat him on his chest and tell him good quiet.
If he quiets down really quick I try to reward him with a treat that I know that he likes.
I know that this method does take time, but it is what I have found to work out best because it helps form a bond with your dog and you as well as teaching your dog that you are the boss.
