How to Convert a Crib Into a Full-Size Bed

    • 1). Purchase a conversion set for your crib if it was not included in the initial purchase of the crib. Conversion sets are typically available for about $100 and should include full-length bed rails and any additional hardware needed to convert your specific crib to a full-size bed.

    • 2). Clear a space large enough for a full-size bed frame, typically 54 to 56 inches wide by 75 to 85 inches long. Ideally, this space will be in the room in which you would like to keep the assembled bed, because it will be large and difficult to move after it is assembled.

    • 3). Detach the front and back frames of the crib by following the instructions provided with your crib at its initial purchase. Set aside all other parts of the crib.

    • 4). Attach the side rails to the crib’s front and back frames, which are now the headboard and footboard, as directed in the instructions that came with the crib or with the conversion set.

    • 5). Follow any other special directions from the manufacturer. These may include installing additional support features necessary for the structural integrity of the full-size bed frame.

    • 6). Place a full-size box spring and full-size mattress on the bed frame.
