How to Make a Folding Table Cover

    Folding Table Protective Cover

    • 1). Measure the length and width of the table top. Add two inches to the length measurement and two inches to the width measurement. These are the adjusted measurements.

    • 2). Fold and cut two pieces of fabric, right sides of the fabric touching, according to the table's adjusted measurements.

    • 3). Fold the edges of the fabric against the wrong side of the fabric to create an ½-inch hem, and pin.

    • 4). Sew the pinned hem using the zig zag function of the sewing machine with an ½-inch seam allowance. Remove pins.

    • 5). Fold the edges of the fabric over one inch against the wrong side of the fabric and pin. This is the elastic casing.

    • 6). Sew, using the straight stitch function, the pinned edges, leaving a 3-inch opening (elastic entrance/exit). Remove pins.

    • 7). Cut a piece of ½-inch wide elastic measuring HALF the measurement of the length multiplied by 2 added to the width multiplied by 2. Connect a safety pin to both ends of elastic. Connect one elastic end with a safety pin to the fabric of the casing so the elastic isn't lost within the casing.

    • 8). Feed the safety pin/elastic through the casing, until the pin/elastic emerges. Pin. Sew the elastic to the fabric and sew the casing opening closed.

    • 9). Turn the fabric right-side out and slip the elastic over the folding table top with the elastic positioned under the table edge.

    Folding Table Storage Cover

    • 1). Measure the length and the width of the entire table and add four inches to each measurement; these are the adjusted measurements.

    • 2). Fold fabric, right sides touching, and cut two pieces according to the table's adjusted measurements. Pin the edges, leaving one side open.

    • 3). Sew three sides along the pins, using a 1-inch seam allowance and the straight stitch function on the sewing machine. Leave one side open.

    • 4). Fold the edges of the open side over one inch, against the wrong side of the fabric, and sew. This is so that the edges will not be raw when the fastening tape is sewn to the opening of the storage case.

    • 5). Sew the sewable fastening tape strips to each side of the opening. Turn the cover right side out and insert the entire table into the storage cover. Close the opening.
