- 1). Pick a campground that allows people to set up up tents. If you don't own a tepee you may want to consider finding a campground that has traditional tepees set up on the grounds already. Look in the Resource sections to find a campground that fits your camping and location needs.
- 2). Go to the campground and find your site. Set up the tepee if you brought it with you. Follow the instruction manual, since setup varies from one manufacturer to another. Make sure you set up your tepee on land that is relatively flat and smooth so it will be easy to sleep on. Clear any rocks out from under the tepee's base.
- 3). Lay down padding on the floor such as blankets or a camping mat. These mats can cover the whole floor or go under individual sleeping bags depending on their size.
- 4). Place sleeping bags and other personal items in the tent. Do not keep valuable items in your tent because it's easy for people to break in and steal them. Lock up these items in the car or, better yet, leave them at home.
- 5). Leave all food outside the tent because it attracts animals. Keep a cooler for perishable items. Bring food that is easy to cook on an outdoor grill or over a fire. Make sure to throw all food away in a covered bin so it doesn't attract animals.
