- 1). Find a place to attach the hitch on the back. The towing hitch will be screwed into the back metal plate of the mower.
- 2). Purchase a tow hitch. The tow hitch should be a simple add-on attachment. Most lawn mower retailers and service centers sell them. The tow hitch is an "L" shaped piece of metal. One side screws into the mower and the other side has a hole in it.
- 3). Screw the tow hitch into the predesignated area on the back of the mower. The tow hitch should come with screws but if it does not then the right screws must be purchased. The appropriate screws will be those recommended by the particular brand of hitch being used. The screws should have a head that is large enough to keep the hitch attached to the mower. A drill will likely be necessary to pierce the metal of the back of the mower.
- 4). Test the tow hitch. Read the manual for the tow hitch carefully as it should state the excepted weight limits and towing capacity of the hitch. Do not exceed those limits. The weigh limit should be between 200 and 300 lbs. Avoid towing on hills as the weight of the load will have more of an impact on the performance and safety of the mower.
