Picnic Sandwich Recipes

Picnic sandwich recipes are the standard for most picnicking foods.
A delicious sandwich will be the cornerstone of most outdoor meals because not only is it easily portable, but it also provides a well balanced meal of grains, vegetables, dairy, and meats as well.
It will fill you up quickly and tastes great.
Sadly, most people go with basic ham on rye choices for the picnic when there are many exciting variations out there to explore and savor just like you would the great weather, not that ham on rye doesn't have its moments.
Here are a few basic ideas to give you some new options when planning sandwiches for your picnic.
For starters, try out some new breads.
Yes - sliced bread is extremely convenient, but there are now many specialty bakeries that will provide you with a great selection of breads that you may have missed.
You'll have to do a little more work, but it's well worth it.
Baguettes are usually eating in slices or as garlic bread, but thin fresh loaves make great sandwiches.
Cut these in half, and you'll have a chewy yet crunchy vehicle that goes with practically any contents.
Ciabatta is also a great choice with a very similar result to your sandwiches.
Try some of the new salamis that are available in most grocers.
These pack a lot more flavor than ham or turkey, and many go great with these American standards.
Likewise for cheeses as well.
With smoked cheeses or rich choices like feta, fresh mozzarella, or blue cheeses, you can really switch up your standard sandwich routine.
There are many great mustards out now.
Stone ground and French mustards are much stronger and spicier than American mustards, but they don't overpower the food you're eating.
Rather their salty taste and vinegar aspects bring out the other flavors within your sandwich.
They may be a bit more expensive, but they are well worth the extra money and you don't use quite as much per loaf as you would for American mustards.
For vegetarians and those looking to explore different realms, roasted Portobello mushrooms, in lieu of meats, are delicious and hearty.
These soaked over night in balsamic before roasting off provide a powerful kick to your basic sandwich.
Mix this with roasted red peppers, or really with any of the sandwiches listed above, and you'll have one really powerfully new sandwich.
Regardless of what you like or want to try, keep everything separate until you're ready to eat.
