The most common anxiety disorders are generalized disorders. Anxiety disorders cover several different forms of phobias, fear and dread. A disorder may start out gradually and become worse as years progress. A disorder can inhibit you from pursuing your daily routine.
The main characteristic of generalized Anxiety Disorder or commonly referred to as (GAD) is you are suddenly faced with fear and dread about everyday things. The worry can cause many physical ailments, and prohibit you from carrying out your normal daily routine. GAD is extremely hard for most physicians to diagnosis because the symptoms of the disorder may not always be prominent. In order to properly diagnose the disorder, specific symptoms must be present for the span of at least 6 months.
How to diagnose Generalized Anxiety Disorder:
-Uncontrollable worry and/or fear present for a period of 6 months, the fear or worry can stem from numerous different events that occur in your daily life
-Inability to control your emotions of worry, fear or dread
-Your splurge of worry and dread are associated with 3 or more of the 6 following symptoms (children need to be experiencing at least one)
Feeling almost under the weather like something is wrong
Inconsistently tired
Inability to focus/ constantly loses their train of thought
Easily annoyed
Tension of the muscles
Unexplained insomnia/ do not wake up feeling well rested
Problems digesting food
Constant shakes and sweating
Vomiting/ feeling like your head is exceptionally light
Shortness of breath
-Dealing with an anxiety disorder is not limited to having an attack, catching a sickness, putting on a few pounds, being deadly ill, the stress does not occur during post traumatic disorder
-Your symptoms play a toll on your social life as well as your work life. The disorder inhibits you to perform daily activities as you normally would
-Your symptoms are not caused by any impurities such as alcohol or drugs, or a specified medical condition. The symptoms do not occur during mood swings, or as a way to persuade people to do what you want
People who are diagnosed with a mild case of GAD find it just fine to function in average day society. These people are able to go out to social events and hold down a decent occupation. However, if their condition is at a higher severity level, they can find it difficult to function in their daily lives. The disorder grows worse over time. Its not just all going to come on at once; you may experience some symptoms early on that you had no inclination of being a disorder. The disorder is not bias to certain age groups, it can affect people of many different ages, and however it is more prone to begin in someone that is still in the early ages of child to middle age.
Doctors will regularly prescribe medication such as an antidepressant for the disorder as well as engage you in a behavioral therapy to help alleviate the symptoms of the debilitating disorder. A few of the most common prescriptions giver are benzodiazepines, antidepressants, and Quetiapine.
