- This document is the first part of the two divorce decrees. It shows that the court has approved the grounds for divorce and that the process is moving to the final part. Neither person needs to attend the court hearing in order to receive this decree. The decree, also known as form D29, tells you when you can apply for the final decree.
- This is the final divorce certificate and the one needed to show proof of divorce. The certificate details the persons' full names, the date of marriage and the date of divorce. The earliest date you can apply for the decree absolute, or form D37, is six weeks and one day after the decree nisi was issued. Once you have the decree absolute, you are free to remarry.
- The decree absolute costs £45. If you are receiving benefits, or can show financial difficulties, you may not have to pay the fee, or at least only part of it. Information about payment exemptions are available from HM Courts Service in form EX50.
