Have you ever thought what you would do if you lost your job or got into an accident and were unable to work? What if you lost your healthcare insurance? What if you couldn't get another job with health insurance? Although this may not be at the top of our daily concerns (I am not saying it should), but you should think about these questions.
You may "Why?" Simple, it happens to millions of Americans every year.
They experience this type of horrible reality every year! The best advice is be prepared, not to suffer this fate, but have the health insurance coverage that will help you.
It doesn't have to be cancer or a triple by-pass heart surgery that can cause this type of situation.
It is interesting to note that most employers cannot afford to keep employees more than a month after they use up all "company benefit days off" (sick time, vacation or floating holidays) if they have suffered a serious illness.
These people end up getting "let go".
Then the financial worries begin and medical bills start adding up.
This type of situation is the leading cause of bankruptcy every year! There is a little hope though, in 1986 the U.
S.
government passed the COBRA legislation, which basically states that employers must keep former employees on their healthcare insurance plan for up to eighteen months (there are some qualifications that need to be met).
Almost every time though that a former employee can benefit from the COBRA act, the premiums come directly from themselves.
