How to Convert a Pool From Chlorine to Salt

    • 1). Drain your pool. Once the pool is drained, clean it, then fill it again with fresh water. Use the freshest water possible to help the conversion process go smoothly.

    • 2). Wire your saltwater chlorine generator to your pool's water pump. When the water pump for the pool turns on it will send a signal to your saltwater chlorine generator, prompting it to turn on automatically.

    • 3). Add salt to your pool. Check how many gallons of water your pool can hold to determine how many bags of salt to add. According to Red Square Pools, you should add eight 40-pound bags of salt to a 15,000 gallon pool. The goal is to achieve 3,000 ppm (parts per million) of salt, which you can test with a chemical strip purchased from a pool-supply store.
