How do I Order Hearing Aids in Canada?

    • 1). Visit your doctor. He can diagnose your hearing problem or refer you to a hearing specialist who can help you. You must be tested before you can order an appropriate hearing aid.

    • 2). Visit the Canadian Hearing Society homepage (see Resources). The Canadian Hearing Society is a nonprofit organization that operates exclusively in Canada, and provides the hard of hearing with counseling and education. If you live in Ontario, you can visit one of their offices. Click on the tab labeled "Our Locations" on the right-hand side of the screen to find an office near you.

    • 3). Visit the websites of private retailers. Several hearing aid retailers operate across Canada. Companies like Siemens Hearing, Widex Canada and Island Hearing have offices all over the country. Their websites list locations across Canada so you can find a retailer near you.

    • 4). Visit a local retailer. Most retailers have hearing specialists that will fit you for a hearing aid on site. Give the vendor any information about your condition that you received from your doctor or another hearing specialist.

    • 5). Ensure that the vendor is registered with the Assistive Devices Program (ADP) if you need a device that is covered by the national health plan. You will need to get an application form from a vendor and provide your health card number and personal information.
