Easy Techniques to Ease Insomnia

Most of us have occasional insomnia. Maybe you are thinking of something pressing, maybe it's too hot or humid, perhaps you are stressing over the days or weeks events, or maybe you do not know why. Most people occasionally exhibit and suffer from insomnia, which can leave you totally exhausted and sometimes almost useless in the morning. When its reoccuring is when it's the worst.  Here are some simple ways to combat insomnia that may help.

Do you have a standard sleeping schedule? Going to bed at the same time and getting up at the same time can work wonders. Most people's bodies do not do well with erratic schedules. Make a schedule and stick to it if you can.

If there is something on your mind keeping you awake, can you easily handle the concern? If you can deal with it quickly, do so before going to bed. Even if you jump out of bed for a minute or two to deal with it, you may sleep much better in the long run. For example, I got out of bed last week to send an email that was weighing heavily on my mind, and slept like a baby afterwards.

Sometimes people mention counting sheep to help fall asleep, and it works. Actually imagining anything can help you fall asleep. What do you enjoy? Think about it while in bed. I often imagine fishing my favorite stream or going for a bike ride. These activities relax me, as does imagining doing them, and they help me fall asleep.
Caffeine doesn't keep me awake but it does with many people. It's not just coffee, but tea, soft drinks, and even a number of medicines that contain caffeine. This could be the problem or part of it. For example, my coffee swilling friend Bob found he should not have any coffee or even soft drinks after 11AM in the morning or he may have severe sleeping problems.
Now if you suffer from serious insomnia, and the above hints do not work, consider seeking medical advice. There may be an underlying medical condition and insomnia may simply be a symtom. Occasional insomnia not worrisome as it's normal, but if you have any doubts go see your doctor!
