Several U.S. states offer gold-mining vacations. Visitors may bring their own camping equipment or rent from the mining site. - Established in the 1930s by Fairbanks Exploration Corporation Company, the Chicken Gold Camp & Outpost has been turned into a National Historical Site. In addition to touring and watching actual gold miners, visitors may plan their own gold-mining adventures.
You can rent cabins starting at $90 per night as of October 2010. The cabins will accommodate up to six people. You have access to a wireless Internet connection and coin-operated showers. Chicken Gold Camp & Outpost provides dinner and entertainment on the deck.

www.chickengold.com - Enjoy gold and gem mining at the Thermal City Gold Mine. Located in North Carolina, Thermal City Gold Mine is open between March 1 and November 15 each year. Visitors can use the on-site location for camping, or they can rent open cabins. Rates as of October 2010 start at $15 per night for the campsite and $40 per night for the cabins. All sleeping quarters are along the riverside.

Visitors can stay for the day, the night or all week, and they can rent gold-mining equipment. Starting at $65 per night, as of October 2010, you can rent the prospecting shacks. The rental rate is based on two adults. Additional guests are welcome for an additional fee. Children 17 and under stay free with renting adults. Guests who rent six nights will receive the seventh night free.

Visitors will learn how to mine their own gold using several mining methods such as panning and dry washing. In addition to gold mining, visitors can fishing, collect rocks and hiking. On Saturday nights, enjoy a cookout in the canyon.
Rates depend on whether a guest will be staying in a cabin or pitching a tent. Prices are by the week, and as of October 2010 start at $500 for two people.
