(The Latest Information from the FDA) If you are going to a tanning salon regularly, you are not alone.
If you are going to the beach when it's hot and sunny, you are not alone.
If you are using sunscreen the right way, and following all the sun safety recommendations, you are probably in the very few.
So, because you are in the majority, can you just forget about the other stuff? Sure.
Should you? Read on and decide for yourself.
A few months ago, I read an article in the Washington Post and they reported the results of a study done which stated that for women in their 20's melanoma soared 50 PER CENT.
Young people don't think about melanoma, and why should they? They think they're indestructible.
I know I did.
But we know a lot more about more things today, so we can protect our children, if they'll listen.
But we need to get their attention first.
There aren't that many things to know that can help save your life.
And they're simple.
1.
Check your skin once a month.
If you see a very dark or irregular mole, go see a dermatologist and get it checked; 2.
Your odds of getting melanoma TRIPLE by going to a tanning salon.
Is it worth it? 3.
Use plenty of sunscreen (broad spectrum) and reapply often.
But the FDA warns consumers, "Sunscreen alone will not protect you," and they advise wearing a broad-brimmed hat and get shade.
4.
Skin cancer doesn't just come to old people.
