Home and garden shows offer homeowners an opportunity to consult with area product and service providers in one location. They are packed with ideas and information about gardening, remodeling and decorating. Northern California home shows range in size from the gigantic to the small, local affair. Show dates change every year so it's best to consult the show's website to get current information. - The Northern California Home & Landscape Expo started in 1995 and it is held every year at the Cal Expo Fairgrounds in Sacramento. It features over 1,000 exhibit booths manned by experts in a variety of disciplines, such as construction, landscaping and pools and spas. There are display gardens, workshops and seminars.
Admission in 2011 is $7 for adults; kids 12 and under are free. Seniors, 60 years of age and older, pay only $2 on Friday. Parking is $10. The show no longer rents wheelchairs and strollers to attendees, so plan accordingly. Show dates for 2011 are January 28 to 30.

homeandlandscapeexpo.com - If you live in the south bay area you are most likely familiar with the 30-year-old South Bay Home & Garden Show. Held twice a year, in the spring and the fall, this large show features remodeling experts and seminars where you can get decorating and landscaping ideas. Held at the Santa Clara County Convention Center, admission for the spring 2011 show, from January 21 to 23, is $10 for adults and $6 for seniors over the age of 60. Kids under 12 are admitted free. Active military, police and firefighters are also free with ID. There is free parking at the fairgrounds parking lots.

southbayhomeshow.com - Although it is smaller than other Northern California home and garden shows, the Chico Home, Garden and Antique show, over 20 years old, offers a more practical approach to gaining ideas for the home and garden. Seminar topics include composting and irrigation. There are raffles for prizes and you can see the latest products for the home and garden. The antique show is also a sale, so bring your credit card if you collect. Sponsored by Soroptomist International of Chico, 100 percent of the proceeds go to help local charities. Show dates for 2011 are March 19 and 20 at the Silver Dollar Fairgrounds in Chico. Admission is $5 for adults, and children 12 and under are admitted free. Parking is $2.
