Making the right choices when decorating your bedroom is important. We spend up to a third of our lives sleeping, so bedroom decor should complement our personality and living styles. The bedroom should be a place for relaxing and rejuvenation, although this takes different forms for different people. For some people, the bedroom is a multi-tasking room, with living and office space, and these functions should be incorporated seamlessly into the bedroom's decor. - There are many ways to create a relaxing bedroom atmosphere. For some people, the most relaxing rooms are light and bright. Use lots of white, such as white linens or sheer white curtains, to create an airy, open atmosphere. A similar feeling can be achieved using oceanic blues and greens. Use pastel pinks, purples, yellows, and greens, to create a sunny room for little or grown-up girls.
For others, the most relaxing tones are muted and subdued. Soothing charcoals, browns, and grays are grown-up and understated. These tones can be incorporated into both classic and modern decorating styles. Heavy fabrics, such as taffeta and flannels, complement dark wood furniture in a classic room. Low furniture and sleek lines are complemented by fabrics like organic cotton and silks in a modern room. - Romantic styles make great home decorating ideas for bedrooms and these too can take many forms. For a sexy, grown-up romantic bedroom, use rich tones of reds and purples with touchable fabrics like silks ands satins. Accessorize with lush flowers, jewel-toned candles and even a sparkling chandelier light fixture.
A more masculine romantic style can be created by incorporating heavy wood furniture and rich leather accents. Recessed lighting and touchable textures, like a shag or sheepskin rug, add a touch of sensuality and mystery. - Some bedrooms need to be functional for more than just sleeping. Many of us use bedrooms as living or work spaces, in addition to being a place for rest. If possible, try to segment the non-sleeping portion of the room, using curtains, screens, or bookcases as a divider. This can help you keep your mind from restlessness when you are trying to sleep.
Your extra furniture should complement your bedroom decor. Look for desks, couches, or TV centers that complement your bedroom set. Furniture can also be painted to match your color scheme. Choose desk accessories that play off your bedroom's theme, or throw pillows that echo the colors and textures of your bedspread. - For children, bedrooms are not just a sleeping room, they are also a play room and a center for imagination. Kids love bright, primary colors, and few decorations are needed, as toy collections make the perfect accessories. Let kids decorate the walls using their own framed artwork, display educational posters, or have an engaging mural painted on the wall. Boys love bedrooms with animal, car, space, or western themes, and princesses, flowers, and horses are perennially popular with little girls. For elementary and middle school children, choose a style that can easily transition into the older teen years, instead of leaving them stuck in a room decorated with fairy princesses or teddy bears.
