- 1). Determine what your long-term goal is for the school. This is what you want to ultimately accomplish through the school. What is the point of the school's existence?
- 2). Decide how you will accomplish your long-term goal in terms of how the school will operate on a daily basis. What will happen on a daily basis to ensure that the long-term goal will be met? This will be generally how the school will operate, not specifically. You will have a chance to be more specific when you add your goals.
- 3). Write a mission statement based on your long-term goal. Your mission statement should include your long-term goal as well as how you plan on accomplishing your long-term goal. An example of a mission statement might be: Kingdom Academy will empower children in a mastery-oriented environment that is conducive to learning by helping students to discover their full academic potential.
- 4). Create specific goals based on your mission statement by explaining in detail how you will accomplish your general daily operation goal. For instance, if the overall operational objective is to have a mastery-oriented environment that is conducive to learning, then tell how this will happen. Following are examples of some goals: each student will work at their own pace, all students will have individual education plans (IEP), children will learn and be taught based upon their personal learning style.
- 5). Make sure that your goals are measurable. This means that there should be a way that you can prove through some type of documentation that each goal is being met. For example, in order to explain how you will know if students are learning and being taught based upon their personal learning style, you might explain that each student's learning style was determined at the beginning of the school year, and a list of activities and teaching strategies that help each student to learn better is listed on their IEP along with a place where teachers are required to check and initial on a weekly basis whether each child utilizes his personal learning style activities and is being taught based upon his personal learning style.
