The Bottom Line

If sun protection is what you need, both the Dr. Shade Safari Sun Hat and Dr. Shade Long Billed Sun Cap will do the trick. The Safari Hat has a wide brim and the Long Billed Sun Cap does have a longer bill than standard golf or baseball caps. Both have lightweight chin straps to secure the hat on windy days, and both will fit most adults.

Guide Review - Dr. Shade Safari Sun Hat and Dr. Shade Long Billed Sun Cap

I was pleased with my Dr. Shade Safari Hat. It is lightweight and not stiff, being made of 100% nylon. It will pack easily in luggage, and I won't worry about creases. The Safari Sun Hat is not adjustable. Since it fit me well, I was skeptical about the "one size fits most" claim, but, indeed, fatter heads in my household were very comfortable wearing the Dr.

Shade Safari Hat.

At the time that I received mine, the universal removable shade, to further protect your back, came free with purchase of the hat. It can be soaked in water to add a cooling effect. The shade didn't add much value to this wide-brimmed sun hat for me and I admit that, although it is designed to work with any cap, I probably wouldn't attach it to any of my golf caps since it just doesn't look right unless it's with a Dr. Shade hat!

The Dr. Shade Long Billed Sun Cap is another option, and is suitable for hiking, sports, biking, or strolling down the streets of Scottsdale on a sunny afternoon. This cap is adjustable. With standard baseball or golf caps, our ears are always getting crispy unless we apply sunscreen, and those of us with shorter hair have a tendency to get burned necks. The Long Billed Sun Cap has the ear and neck shade permanently affixed. Although Dr. Shade tells us that the shade can be stowed away inside the crown of the cap when not in use, it was not comfortable for me that way. I could certainly see the benefit of soaking that shade on a hot summer day in Phoenix.
