If you want to be a riverboat gambler and play around with your life savings like it is al Monopoly money, head for Las Vegas or Atlantic City. Do anything but put your family and yourself in jeopardy by rolling the dice and not having health insurance. If you want to be a gambler there are plenty of ways to play with your money and never see any positive results, but if you fool around with your family and its potential health problems, then you are not doing your job as the head of the family. It is best to do your gambling with your spare money and not risking everything you and your family has by not owning the proper health insurance.
It is true that insurance is nothing more than an added expense and if you are lucky you will never need it and will never have to show any benefit from the money you pay for it every month. If you are lucky and have nothing to show for that monthly expense, that is great. Having to use your health insurance is never something you do during a happy time since it usually involves medical bills and some painful trips to the doctor's office, but having insurance is always going to be worth it in the long run.
As people work throughout their lifetimes they accumulate stuff and this means cars, homes, savings, investments, and many other things that go along with these. The stuff really builds up over time and the more stuff that you have the more stuff that can go on the line when you are in a financial crisis. Medical bills and long term hospitalization costs can come out of the blue and can hit you like a ton of bricks.
Everything you have accumulated can be taken away from you in a matter of months if you do not have the proper type of health insurance. If you think paying the bills is tough now while trying to maintain your lifestyle, imagine what it would be like to have to pay medical bills.
When you or a family member become ill there is little control that you can have over this and little that you can do about it except sign the paperwork and try to move forward. Working day by day just trying to get through the crisis you are completely at the mercy of medical personnel. Every year people are driven to declare bankruptcy because of unpaid medical bills and no matter whom you are or how much you have your health insurance is one of the most valuable resources you have. Even just your portion of these medical bills can be overbearing but without health insurance you will be stuck losing everything or having to declare bankruptcy in the end. Health insurance is something that you very simply can't afford to live without and every day that you live without coverage you are risking a lifetime's worth of work and earnings.
