- 1). Go to the Departamento de Transito (transit department) offices in the municipality where your identification was confiscated. If you can't go to the Departamento de Transito, you can send someone else.
- 2). Explain that your ID was taken from you by a transit officer and show the agent the copy of the traffic violation given to you. The agent needs the file number from the ticket to locate the identification. If someone else is going for you, have them show the traffic violation.
- 3). The office agent will locate the fine, and your state ID. He will then ask to see valid identification, which is either a passport, or other valid Mexican ID. If someone else is going for you, they will have to show their identification.
- 4). Pay the transit fine and your ID will be returned.
