- 1). Cut your fabric pieces for the pillow cover. The top pillow piece should be the same length and width as the pillow you want to cover plus 1/2 inch on all sides for the seam allowance. The back pillow piece should be the same width as the front piece and 4 inches longer than the front. Fold the back piece in half lengthwise and cut on the fold line. Turn the cut edge towards the wrong side about 1/4 inch and press with and iron. Turn in again another 1/4 inch and press. Stitch in place. Repeat for the second back piece.
- 2). Draw your pattern on a piece of paper or template plastic. For an owl, you will need to draw its body, beak and eyes.
- 3). Cut out your design template from the paper or plastic. Lay the template flat on a piece of paper-backed fusible web and trace the design on the paper side.
- 4). Cut out your shapes with a 1/4-inch edge all around. This extra fabric is for the stitches that go around the raw edges. Lay your shapes sticky-side down on your felt. Iron the shape onto your felt.
- 5). Cut the shapes out of the felt. Cut near the edge of your fusible web, but don't cut into the web. Peel the paper from the back of the web. Place your design onto your top pillow piece and iron in place. Iron your owl body to the background first, then add the eyes and beak.
- 6). Use a blanket stitch to stitch around all the raw edges, including the owl body, eyes and beak.
- 7). Match the edges of the front and back pillow pieces with right sides together. The two back pieces should overlap each other about 1 1/2 inches. Pin the front and back together at the edges and stitch in place all the way around.
- 8). Through the opening in the back, turn the pillowcase right side out. Insert the pillow form into the pillowcase through the back opening. Slip stitch the back opening shut if desired.
