Is Your Parrot Social Or Anti-Social?

Let's hope for your parrot's sake that you have a well socialized bird.
Parrots are very social and they require a lot of work on the owners' part in order to have a parrot that is mentally and physically healthy.
You not only have to make sure it has a good vet and a proper diet, you also have to make sure that it is properly socialized.
You never know which person in your household that the parrot is going to prefer, by having lots of people handling him and every family member offering the parrot attention this might help prevent a one person bird.
Parrots are amazingly compliant, but they don't flourish when they're being ignored or treated badly.
There are a few ways for you to help your parrot socialize.
Spend some time each day with your bird and reassure it that your relationship is going in the right direction.
Parrots kept in cages all day become very unhappy and can develop neurotic behaviors.
Depending on the kind of parrot you get or have it is a good idea to train the bird to be interacting and outside of its cage with humans at least once every day.
Of course most people now of days have very busy lives and cannot always be available to hold the bird.
You can give them indirect attention by letting them be in the same room with you and your family.
They will love watching whatever you are doing and be happy just be close.
Placing them where there is a lot of traffic with people coming and going or where everyone is hanging out will help keep him or her occupied.
Make sure they have plenty of food such as pellets, seeds, fruits and veggies, also plenty of toys to interact and play with when you are not there.
There are DVD's especially for parrots you can get and play for them.
They might not watch them; but again they might, however the noise will keep them company, some shows birds in the wild and also in captivity interacting with each other, playing and making noise.
Leaving the TV or radio on will entertain them also.
They like mirrors too! As long as your parrot doesn't become bored and has plenty of attention and you teach him tricks to help overcome any behavioral problems his social skills will be fine.
On the other hand he could become aggressive and anti-social towards people if not shown the attention he or she requires.
