Often someone looks at a family member, friend or loved one and wonders if their drinking may be out of control? Though the person cared about may say that their drinking is just social and to relax, doubts may persist.
There are three categories for those who drink alcohol which are social drinkers, abusers and those who are addicted.
Social drinkers often drink during gathers like weddings, birthday parties, sport games, and other family or peer gatherings.
Some people at social gatherings may get out of control and drink excessively.
They may be responsible enough to have a designated driver, but there are many who feel that they are "okay" to drive.
Even if they've only drank a couple of drinks, their judgment is impaired.
This can lead to an accident.
Abusers may not need to drink daily, but when they do, they consume large quantities.
People who abuse alcohol usually also run into certain situations of trouble.
Some of these negative results can include, bar fights, embarrassing behavior, arguments, or vomiting.
Spousal abuse is a common occurrence during alcohol abuse.
Abusers often drive drunk because they feel that the alcohol doesn't affect them.
However, the abusers judgment is impaired and they are dangerous.
Addicts are those who need alcohol to "function" throughout the day.
They aren't able to handle stressful situations without consuming alcohol.
They will drink to the point of sickness, and then drink more.
They exhibit memory loss, poor motor skills, and emotional outbursts.
These individuals often deny that they are drunk and can cause serious injury, even death.
