Citing a Commercial in APA Format

    • 1). Identify the company for which the commercial was created and from which you want to include information in your paper. For example, if you want to use the slogan from a Jack in the Box commercial ("We don't make it until you order it"), you will need to include a citation in your paper.

    • 2). Find out the exact month and year the commercial aired on television. Abbreviate the month and write out all four digits of the production year of the commercial.

    • 3). Place the citation, in parenthesis, at the end of the sentence or phrase you are quoting. For example, if you are quoting the Jack in the Box commercial slogan from a commercial produced in November 2009, the in-text citation would look like this:

"...and We don't make it until you order it..." (Jack in the Box, Nov. 2009).

    • 4). Create a citation in the bibliography after your paper. Instead of placing the entire citation in parenthese, place the parentheses only around the date and year. After the company name and production date, add the word "Commercial" followed by a period. For example, a bibliographical citation out-of-text would look like this:

Jack in the Box (Nov. 2009). Commercial.
