These days, most reliable laptop computer bags and backpacks come with padding already installed within them, but what is one to do if the padding gets removed, deteriorates and wears away with use, or is just plain not enough to keep the laptop safe? The easiest and most simple solution is to add more padding yourself.
Luckily, computers do not need a specific type of padding to keep them protected from accidents and abuse.
As long as it is soft and shock absorbent, it will more than likely do the trick.
Any type of foam, such as acoustic foam, will suffice, and can be purchased cheaply from any packing or packaging store, moving company, or even Amazon.
com.
Another could source for potential foam would be the commercially sold foam mats for kids, such as the ones children use for nap time in Kindergarten.
Exercise mats would also be a cheap alternative to acquiring foam.
The next step in the process of adding foam to your bag is measuring and cutting.
After the measurements of the computer bag have been determined, cut out foam pieces, leaving a little extra for a more snug fit.
If the foam is cut leaving a little more than measured on each side, the pieces should wedge their way into the laptop bag, eliminating the need to attach it by other means.
If the pieces do not snuggly wedge their way into the laptop bag, one might consider using duct tape or even Velcro straps to make sure the foam pieces remain in place during use.
Once the process of adding and securing the foam pieces is completed, put the laptop bag through a trial and error session.
Don't do anything ridiculous like dragging the laptop bag with the laptop inside, but make sure that when the laptop is inserted into the bag, the sides and bottom are resting comfortably against support.
Another alternative would be to check out laptop bag accessories online.
While it's not as easy on one's wallet, some brands such as "Pelican" produce laptop sleeves, which essentially are compact laptop bags that's are specifically designed to fit inside bigger bags to provide more support.
