Landing Crafts And Their Multiple Uses

Landing crafts are ships used for conveying passengers and vehicles from the sea to the shore. They were developed during World War Two for strategic landing operations. Landing crafts now come in various sizes and shapes and they are even bigger than the ones created during the world war two. The major types that can be seen these days are the landing craft tankers, ferries and cargo boats. But the question that arises here is - what exactly are landing crafts and where do we use them? Landing crafts are nothing but boats and seagoing vessels used to convey a landing force from the sea to the shore during an amphibious assault.

Landingcrafts are specially built to fold down thereby allowing access to and from them. This access, in many instances, is in form of a walkway or road that leads into the shore which makes the movement of vehicles and passengers to and from the shore easier. A car ferry is one of the most popular landing crafts that are available for charter today. It makes transportation easier for drivers as it can drive on the back and on the front in many instances. Some car ferries are very large and could be as large as a ship driver whereby passengers can park their cars to take the advantages of a ferry's wide range of services.

Landing crafts are basically used for military purposes. Some landing craft were converted for special purposes either to give defence for the other landing craft in the attack or as support weapons during the landing. Some of them are -

Landing craft assault(hedgehog)
Landing craft flak
Landing craft gun
Landing craft rocket

They are also used as air-cushioned landing craft .The air cushioned landing craft (Landing Craft Air cushion, or LCAC in the US Navy) is based on small to midsized multi-purpose hovercraft.

These vehicles are commonly used in the United State navy, the Royal navy and the Russian navy. There are also different varieties of landing craft tankers that are specially designed to transport cargo trucks. You can get one of such for charter and make use of it for commercial purposes. In fact, they make cargo transportation easier and more efficient because you won't need to remove containers from one truck to another. This way, a lot of time is saved and a lot of resources that would have been used up are preserved.
