Roland had a bit of a gambling hobby and it had been known to get him into some trouble when he was a younger inexperienced bettor. He had fallen into debt in his early twenties, but had managed to pull himself out of it by finding a full time job that kept him away from gambling establishments. It didn't help him that they native Americans were more often than not receiving permission to erect casinos on tribal lands, and gambling houses gradually came closer to him and much more convenient for him to access. He still liked to travel to places like Atlantic City and Las Vegas at least a couple of times a year when he had vacations.
He was no longer reckless about gambling and had become quite talented at poker, and he could make decent money on his trips which helped him afford his somewhat lavish lifestyle. It was nice to go to the bigger gambling cities like Vegas and Atlantic City because there were always other things going on aside from the gambling. There were great restaurants and awesome night shows in addition to great rooms at affordable rates. During this most recent economic collapse, it was even greater for people who loved to visit the city because tourism was its biggest source of income.
Roland started to take advantage of these deals and go out to Vegas a lot. Sometimes he would take a date or some friends along, and he was on a real winning streak in his previous trips. On his most recent trip he had a great weekend and came home with over six figures in winnings, and he had also learned many new things because at the same time he was there, the electronics expo was taking place and he discovered the incredible features of three dimensional television. He had been to a few of the movies offered in 3D, but the new and amazing 3D television were something that he knew that he had to get.
With his enormous winnings that he came home with, he ordered one of the first 3D televisions on the market. It came with some fancy glasses to make the viewing experience more comfortable for the customer. The only problem with the 3D television was that it was a relatively new invention and there wasn't programming available for it. At least that was what Roland thought until he saw that one satellite television company was going to be offering 3D coverage of the FIFA world Cup that summer.
Roland changed immediately to this satellite television provider and prepared himself to experience the World Cup in 3D in his home living room. With the satellite television provider he wouldn't even need to go to South Africa to feel like he was close to the field. He knew that just like with high definition television, 3D programming would become more popular in a short time and the best way to experience it would be with satellite television. In less than a year he was sure that there would be multiple channels offering three dimensional television programming.
