The Sierra Nevada Mountains surround Reno and Lake Tahoe, making the area very popular during the beautiful summers, and the snow-filled winters. In fact, when the snow flies, the casinos often are empty while locals and visitors alike hit the slopes. Reno boasts some of the nicest casinos in the world while still offering great room rates and access to local ski resorts. Taxes and resort fees are not included in ski package deal prices - transportation is extra.


Reno's casinos are less than 45-minutes away from some of the world's best-known ski resorts. Visitors can take Highway 395 to the Mount Rose Highway to ski Mount Rose, or head down I-80 towards California to ski Boreal Ridge or slip over to North Shore (Highway 89) to hit Northstar Resort in Truckee. Many other ski resorts are close by, including Squaw Valley, Alpine Meadows, Boreal, Homewood, Diamond Peak, Heavenly Valley, Kirkwood, Sierra at Tahoe, and Sugarbowl.
Reno Casinos
Long-time favorite Harrah's casino in downtown Reno has 600 rooms and good rates during the winter. The casino features the standard mix of slots, video poker, and table games. Keno goes 24 hours a day, and the sports book opens at 10am. Harrah's uses a service provided to most of the local hotels to offer a ski and stay package.

Guests may chose a ready-to-go package, or set their own length of stay. Shuttle service from the hotel is available to Northstar, Mount Rose, Alpine, and Squaw Valley starting December 21.

Shuttles are provided by the ski resorts at $15 per person and first pick-up is at 7:35 in the morning. Harrah's Ski Getaway package starts at $75 per person and include an adult lift ticket to Mt. Rose, one special breakfast coupon per skier, and a one-night stay in the hotel.
Other Ski Package Hotels
The Eldorado in downtown Reno offers beautiful rooms, a casino with slots, video poker, Keno, a race and sports book, and a very popular poker room. Their ski packages start at $79 per person for Boreal and include a $10 food credit.

Next along the downtown corridor is Silver Legacy, which is attached by skywalk to the Eldorado. The Silver Legacy casino offers one of the largest casino floors in Reno with slots, video poker, Keno, table games, and a poker room. The resort ski package is a one-night stay at Silver Legacy Resort Casino and includes a $7 food credit and a $100 resort bonus coupon book (per room) with an all-day adult lift ticket to Mt. Rose Ski Tahoe.

The Grand Sierra Resort has 2000 hotel rooms, shopping, a bowling alley, and 2-day ski packages. The casino has the standard fare of table games, slots and video poker, Keno, and huge sport book. A poker room offers live and tournament play. The resort's $135 ski package currently offers two lift tickets to Mt. Rose Ski Tahoe and a two-night stay in the hotel.

The Peppermill has one of the nicest, most complete casinos in town. Their poker room and sports book are top notch, and they offer a three-night stay winter package. The mid-week package (arrivals Sun-Wed) is $209 and the weekend arrival package is $289. Discount lift tickets can be purchased at the Regali Bottega Gift Shop and a $75 Resort Credit is included per room, per stay.
Our Favorite Deal
Closest to Mount Rose Highway of all the Reno casinos is the Atlantis with nearly 1,000 rooms, 1,500 slots, 35 table games and a poker room. Their ski package includes a one night room and tax at Atlantis, one adult lift ticket per person to Mt. Rose Ski Tahoe, one $20 food credit per room, and one $20 free slot play per room. The rate is $85 per person/double occupancy.

If you are flying into Reno, the airport is no more than five miles from any of these ski-package casinos with the Grand Sierra nearly next door. Most offer free shuttle service to and from the airport. Driving during the winter may require snow-chains near the summits of Mt. Rose and Donner Pass. They are very rarely required anywhere in Reno. If you venture over the summit to North Shore or try the other casinos at Lake Tahoe you may need four-wheel drive or snow tires at certain times of the year.
