How to Neuter Male Cats Early

    • 1). Take your kitten to the veterinarian to discuss having your kitten neutered. Neutering kittens is generally done between the ages of 4 to 6 months, but a pediatric neuter can be done as early as 6 to 8 weeks of age. Make an appointment for an early neuter based on the veterinarian's recommendation.

    • 2). Have your kitten neutered. The surgery is performed with the use of general anesthesia to ensure that your kitten feels no pain during the procedure. In most cases, your kitten is able to return home the same day of the surgery.

    • 3). Provide your kitten with a warm, quiet, indoor spot to recover in. Give it a comfortable bed and fill the kitten's litter box with shredded paper rather than litter. Keep your kitten as quiet and calm as possible, and keep it away from other pets and small children until recovery is complete.

    • 4). Follow all of your veterinarian's after care instructions. This includes feeding and bathing instructions, care of the incision and administration of pain medication.

    • 5). Ensure that your kitten does not tear, lick or pull out its stitches. If this becomes challenging, consider using an Elizabethan collar (e collar), which is a hooded collar that blocks pets from bothering their stitches.
