Significance

• The symptoms of MS and their severity differ from patient to patient. Over the course of the disease, some symptoms can come and go; some might be worse, and some might not be as dramatic as the first onset.
  
  

Fatigue and Numbness

• Fatigue is a common symptom of multiple sclerosis. Numbness in the hands, feet, legs, arms or other extremities also may occur.
  
  

Walking and Pain

• Walking may become difficult for a person with MS. He may trip, fall, appear clumsy or feel as if he is lugging a ball and chain. Pain can also occur in any part of the body.
  
  

Bladder Problems and Constipation

• Bladder problems may be present -- a person with MS might lose control of her bladder function. Constipation may also become persistent.
  
  

Vision and Vertigo

• Changes in vision may occur; blurred, double or dull vision is common. Dizziness or vertigo could also be a symptom of MS.
  
  

Emotional Changes and Depression

• Emotional changes and depression may occur. A person with MS symptoms might become withdrawn and uninterested. Also, sexual dysfunction may arise.
