- 1). Skim leaves off the cover with a leaf skimmer. Drain the cover of all water with a small pump or siphon hose before removing the cover.
- 2). Remove the cover. Clean the cover and allow it to dry thoroughly before folding and storing for the season.
- 3). Remove expansion plugs by turning the center screw counterclockwise with a screwdriver until they can be pulled out of the pipe fittings.
- 4). Close pressure valves and drain plugs.
- 5). Set the filtration system to "Waste" or "Discharge". Turn on the pump. Inspect the system for leaks or drains that you forgot to close. Turn off the pump before closing the remaining openings.
- 6). Set up a pool vacuum and turn on the pool pump.
- 7). Carefully vacuum the walls and floor of the pool. Add water if necessary to keep the water level above the skimmer and water inlet plumbing. Turn off the pump, remove the vacuum and store properly away from the pool deck and walkways.
- 8). Add shock and algaecide to the pool water and set the filtration system to "Circulate". Run the pump continuously for 24 hours.
- 9). Check the disinfectant level and adjust as needed.
- 10
Add DE or filter cartridge to the filtration system. Add some algaecide to the skimmer basket to coat the filtration system with algaecide to help kill algae that passes through the system. - 11
Sweep the sides and bottom of the pool with a stiff pool brush in the direction of the skimmer for an above ground pool or bottom drain for an inground pool. - 12
Monitor the pressure of the filtration system. The dead algae will quickly plug the filter medium. Backwash the DE or sand filter or replace the cartridge in a cartridge filtration system.
