There are so many reasons now to learn Spanish. Not only are there more Spanish speakers than ever living in the United States, it is also often the second foreign language those in Europe choose to learn (English is first). It is the fourth most popular language in the world. It is easy to learn to speak Spanish using a cd or other language program. What are some other reasons to learn Spanish?
Learning about the Neighbors
Now there are Spanish speaking people all over the world. Though you may not live anywhere near a place where Spanish is the native tongue, it may be that your next door neighbors speak Spanish. Sometimes, these Spanish speakers don't know English - if you learn Spanish your vocabulary will help you communicate with them.
Visiting the Neighbors
Sure, you can go to other countries and not know any Spanish, but is that really the way to travel? It's wonderful to be able to talk to the natives in their own language. Often, doors are opened because of having a Spanish vocabulary, and learning more as well as new experiences can be a part of your trip.
What could Be Simpler?
Spanish is known for being one of the easiest foreign languages to learn. Sharing many similarities with English, as well as being a primarily phonetic written language, the Spanish vocabulary can be easily learned. Once you get the basics of their grammar, you will be able to communicate with other Spanish speakers easily.
Moving on to Other Languages
Learning the Spanish vocabulary will help you learn other Latin-based languages - not just French and Italian, but also German and Russian. These languages have some things in common - like gender identifications - that isn't a part of English. As for other non-Latin-based languages, like the Asian languages, learning one language helps you learn how to learn others.
Job Hunting: "Pre-requisite: Bilingual"
In practically any occupation there are benefits to being bi-lingual. Some positions are only open to those who speak Spanish in addition to English, while others give a "language bonus" to those who can help customers in both languages. If you learn Spanish and the vocabulary that includes the words of your trade, you can find financial benefits.
It's Just Good Clean Fun
in addition to all the other reasons, perhaps one of the most compelling for some people is the fact that learning Spanish and acquiring a vocabulary is just plain fun! Maybe that's why children enjoy using Pig Latin or codes - and as adults we can harness that fun to help us out with personal self-improvement.
