Can you win these lotto prizes?

Every single book regarding the theory of probability will tell you that is very difficult to win the lottery. They will demonstrate this by telling you that if you drop a coin it will hit the ground on one of its two faces. In this case the probability is- head or tail. The next step: if you take in consideration a die €" the chance that one of the faces will hit the ground is 1/6, because every die has six parts. Now, the odds that number 6 will hit are 1/6, but the odds for this number to hit twice in a row are 1/36.

From this point of view, more numbers there are, the smaller are the chances for each one of them to hit. In spite of all this, is it possible to elaborate some exact strategies to win the lottery?

The mathematical game theory is trying to resolve the issue regarding €how to play the lottery in order to have a minimum loss€. Starting from here, is it possible to develop some plan in order to win more than you spend buying the tickets? The final question is: is it possible to find out the winning numbers, if each number's odds are equal? The best scenario is to win half of the amount you've spent. Or at least this is the deduction made on scientific reasons only.

But in the real life not everything is purely mathematical or purely scientific. In real life the chance is interfering, otherwise why would people keep buying tickets? Why would they keep on hoping and keep on playing the lottery?

But how can we decide which numbers to play? How to avoid the sad donkey's story that couldn't make up his mind which straw pile he should eat from 2 identical ones? The only answer that you can find to this question, is an old proverb saying: €:measure seven times, cut once€.

The mathematical game theory doesn't exactly give us an answer to this question, but its results are very helpful in elaborating a strategy to turn odds in your favor.

If you will be asked to cut an orange in four equal parts it is very unlikely that you will start measuring (seven times and cut once). You will probably cut it in half, and than, again, each of the 2 parts in half and it's a done deal!

If someone would ask you: €In how many parts you have to cut this orange in order to bring the last 2 halves at the size of an atom€, what would be your answer? A million parts? A billion? No. Te correct answer is approximately 170 times.

This example only proves once again that in some cases is better to measure seven times and cut once and also that the modern science can be very useful in taking the right decision.

The final answer is that the more you know about the game, the more you use various game strategies, the bigger your chances are to win some lottery prizes.
