- Your dosage of Celebrex will depend on the severity of your condition. Celebrex is prescribed in 100 mg tablet increments and taken once per day (usually in the morning). If your condition requires, your doctor may prescribe 200 mg per day (one 100 mg tablet twice daily). You should take your Celebrex every single day, and do not skip or alter your dosage. It is important that you take this medication exactly as it was prescribed to you by your doctor.
- Celebrex is prescribed by doctors for the joint inflammation pain caused by osteoarthritis, bursitis, tendinitis and rheumatoid arthritis. Celebrex is classified as an NSAID (non-steroidal anti-inflammatory) medication and works to prevent swelling, much like Motrin or Ibuprofren does, only in a stronger dosage.
- Sometimes interactions with other medications or diseases can cause complications while taking Celebrex. If you have a stomach ulcer or are using a medication that thins your blood, do not use Celebrex. If you suffer from asthma or if you have kidney problems or a history of heart attack or failure, be sure to discuss these conditions with your physician before starting treatment with Celebrex. Do not take Celebrex if you suffer from hypertension (high blood pressure) without first talking with your doctor.
- It is important that you monitor your health as you use Celebrex. Inform your doctor if you experience heartburn, upset stomach, nausea, dizziness or skin rash after taking Celebrex. Other, more serious side effects of Celebrex that require emergency medical care include shortness of breath or chest pain, cough that produces blood, sudden weight gain or dark, bloody stools. Do not wait to make an appointment with your doctor if you are experiencing any major side effects; seek emergency care instead.
- Because Celebrex is a NSAID (non-steroidal, anti-inflammatory) medication, there is an increased chance of heart attack, stroke or serious skin condition as a result of using this medication. Celebrex may also cause ulcers or bleeding that can be fatal. Never use Celebrex after a heart attack or surgical procedure. Be sure to talk with your doctor about possible fatal complications as a result of using Celebrex.
