The question I have been asking myself recently is should insurance companies be regulated more? Why have I been wondering about this? Well, maybe this has happened to you once or more than once.
Why have I been wondering about this? Well, maybe this has happened to you once or more than once.
You see, I am self employed and pay for my own insurance.
When one company's rates get too high, I start to look for an alternative.
Some are cheaper but do not provide the coverage that I had before.
What I did was find another group that provide the same coverage for a cheaper rate.
This group provided the same coverage by the same insurance company for a cheaper rate.
So I am now with a different group, with the same insurance company, with the same coverage.
Now I have a waiting period before they will pay any benefits such as prescriptions or doctors visits.
Is that fair? They know I have been with them so why do I have to have a waiting period? Another thing that got my goat was that for a colonoscopy, I have to be 50 years of age.
Wouldn't it make more sense to have one at age 40 when doctors say that is the recommended age? Isn't it cheaper to prevent a problem rather that treat something that may cost hundreds of thousands of dollars later.
And may lead to my death? I would like to be around to see my grandchildren for a few years.
