2004 Nissan Frontier Specs

    • In 1959, Nissan sold the first compact truck to U.S. consumers under the Datsun brand. As the Datsun name became obsolete by the mid-1980s, Nissan began manufacturing its hard-body trucks until 1998 with the introduction of the Frontier --- its first named truck in nearly 40 years. The 2004 Frontier, a member of the truck's first generation, came in four trim levels: XE, SVE, SC and LE.

    Exterior Dimensions

    • The exterior dimensions of each trim of the 2004 Nissan Frontier varied slightly between king cab, crew cab and long bed vehicles, which measured 202.9,199.9 and 217.8 inches long, respectively. King cab vehicles measured 66.7 inches high, while the height of crew cab and long bed vehicles varied between 67.1 inches for the XE trim and 71.8 inches for the LE, SVE and SC trims. All 2004 Frontiers had a width of 71.2 inches.

    Interior Dimensions and Features

    • All trims of the 2004 Frontier had the same interior dimensions. The maximum seating capacity varied, with the king cab vehicles maintaining a seating capacity of three and the crew and long bed vehicles maintaining a seating capacity of five. The trucks offered 39.3 inches of front headroom, 41.4 inches of front leg room, 55.3 inches of front shoulder room and 55.2 inches of front shoulder room. The crew and long bed vehicles had rear seats with the same dimensions, offering 37.8 inches of headroom, 30.7 inches of legroom, 54.4 inches of shoulder room and 49.1 inches of hip room. Second-row folding seats came standard in the crew and long bed vehicles, and cargo area tie-downs came standard in all Frontier vehicles.

    Safety Features

    • All 2004 Frontier vehicles came standard with driver and passenger air bags and antilock brakes. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration gave all trims of the 2004 Nissan Frontier a four-star rating for both driver and passenger impact. The Insurance Institute of Highway Safety, on the other hand, gave the 2004 Frontier a marginal overall rating for frontal offset crashworthiness.

    Engine

    • All trims of the 2004 Frontier had a 3.3-liter V-6 engine, with the exception of the base and XE king cab, which had a 2.4-liter, four-cylinder engine. The base and XE king cab had an engine performance of 143 horsepower at 5,200 rpm and 202 foot-lbs. of torque at 2,800 rpm. All other XE models and LE vehicles had an engine performance of 180 horsepower at 4,800 rpm and 202 foot-lbs. of torque at 2,800 rpm. The SVE and SC vehicles had an engine performance of 210 horsepower at 4,800 rpm and 246 foot-lbs. of torque at 2,800 rpm.
